Fun & Recreation in Wakefield

Wakefield is situated in the center of four season recreation on the Gogebic Range with waterfalls, hiking trails, mountain biking, beaches, ATV and snowmobile trails, hunting, fishing, downhill and cross country skiing, and more right in our backyard. The beautiful shores of Lake Superior and wilderness of the Porcupine Mountains are mere miles away for a short day outing. Also, don't forget the area's most popular sandy beach at Sunday Lake located right in the city. Spend the afternoon with family and friends on the beach, in the playground, on the water, or in one of the pavilions and stay at the beautiful campground with full hookups and facilities for RVs or tents.

Beautiful Sunday Lake is situated in the center of the city of Wakefield and is home to Eddy Park and Campground.  The park offers a comfortable sandy beach and swimming area, pavilions available or rent, a boat launch, and a large playground.

The campground features 71 sites for RV or tent camping including all RV with full electric, water, and sewer hookups.  Restroom and shower facilities are located on site and the Sunday Lake beach and park are a short walk away.

Reservations can be made on our website under Campground Reservation in our help center.  Campground Hosts are on site from Memorial Day through Mid October of each year. The Camping Season will vary depending on the weather. 

The City is committed to providing top notch opportunities to our residents and visitors. Since 2014, new water amenities are added to the Swimming Beach each year, that thousands of beach goers have enjoyed. The current amenities include a three-swimming rafts. The Wakefield Fire Department has also sponsored ResQ Discs that are strategically placed around Sunday Lake for added safety measures with the increased use of the City's facilities. Come on down to Sunday Lake in Wakefield for a full day of fun!

The Western Upper Peninsula tests the beach water on a weekly basis during the swimming season. The beach water testing results can be found online here.

We love the 4th of July in Wakefield! Each year we celebrate our independence with a hometown celebration including the amazing "Lightning Over the Lake" fireworks display on Sunday Lake every July 3rd. Leading up to the fireworks on the 3rd is a Picnic in the Park including music, food, drinks, games, and more! July 4th is celebrated with a parade through town, children's parade, races, and even more activities leading up to the big day. We hope to see you in Wakefield to celebrate our country!
